About Nandi

Founder | Cultural Elder | Visionary of Knowledge Keepers ATL

Sonya Gilkey, affectionately known as Sistah Nandi, is a beloved community elder, entrepreneur, and cultural steward who has spent decades uplifting others through her business, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to African traditions. As she elevated into the sacred role of elder, she experienced a merit of emotions: gratitude, reflection, and questions about what it truly means to be an elder in today’s world.

Determined to honor this life milestone in the spirit of African heritage, Sistah Nandi founded Knowledge Keepers ATL and launched its signature event, "Keepers of Knowledge: Celebration of Elders." Held in College Park, GA, the event is a soul-stirring gathering that celebrates the legacy, wisdom, and presence of our elders through storytelling, music, and ancestral honor.

Through her leadership, Knowledge Keepers ATL has become a living tribute to the elders of our community, those who paved the way and continue to guide us. The mission is simple but powerful: to ensure our elders feel seen, valued, and deeply respected.

With every gathering, Sistah Nandi reminds us that honoring our past is how we shape our future.
